i'm making arrangements to meet up with Neil Gaiman when he's in Australia next month. It occurred to me that in the twenty years I've known Neil, the only time I can recall us being in a photo together is this one, and I'm only in it by accident because I'm asleep in the background. It was July 2005 and Neil arrived the day I'd just got back from San Diego.

Termites feast on trader's money- BBC- 7 april

A trader in the Indian state of Bihar has lost his life savings after termites infesting his bank's safe deposit boxes ate them up. Dwarika Prasad had deposited currency notes and investment papers worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in a bank safe in the state capital Patna. The bank says it put up a notice warning customers of the termites.

Definitively get a picture of the two of you together. That should not be SO difficult?
Mmm... More Shaun Tan....

^___^ I'm a Pal.

I love the way you use that word. To my ears, it's a subversion of the contemporary USAnian sense, because I always hear it in an ironic sense when it's said in an American accent (usually from a mobster), but I always get that you mean it in a truthful, traditional way.

Shaun was a wonderful interview subject. He makes my bumbling, witless questions look good.

"Pal" more properly equates to the American "buddy" rather than the sarcastic connotation it has there. Preferable for me to "mate" which everyone and their proverbial dog seems to use in Britain these days. Mate.

Neil Gaiman. Another fellow whose talent so intimidates me that I'd find it impossible to speak to him. It even happened once. I was going to speak to him and just froze up, turned around, and left.

I use "mate" myself, for mates of mine. Non-ironically. ;}P>

Doesn't mean I don't appreciate Eddie's use of "Pal". As I said, I like the resonances when he uses it.

hemlockman, don't be such a big girl's blouse. Talk to him, he's lovely.

Everytime someone calls me 'mate' in England I feel like they're being sarky. 'Aaaand that's one pound and 1p change, MATE.'

Winds me up. Can't be helped.

A beautiful photo that leaves me with questions. What was on the computer? (Was this lots of music I thought Hayley would enjoy?) Why is Miss Hayley Campbell apparently smoking a pen?

OH SURE, make your precious arrangements with Neil Mr Special Gaiman, while my email languishes in your inbox, bleating pathetically like a lost lamb. (I have arrived in Brisbane by the way.)

This makes me stupidly happy that two creators I admire are getting together.

Why, yes, I really don't have a life, do I?

Neil was showing some of his latest space opera, perhaps?

"Kilian notes the rise of traditional (hard) science-fiction writers like Neil Gaiman and Rudy Rucker, but worries that the days of mind-stretching tales are dwindling."

As innocent as pen smoking seems, it soon leads to harder habits...

Like injecting toothpaste, or snorting bum fluff.

I would really recomend snorting bum fluff!

I am also sometimes too intimidated by my own talent to speak to myself , however I always losen myself up with a drink, and then well one thing tends to lead to another and I end up making myself breakfast in the morning.
