The Amazing Remarkable Leotard

Here is the final cover, showing front with spine, as designed by Charlie Orr, who also put together the covers for my other First Second books, The Fate of the Artist and The Black Diamond Detective Agency. The book is at the printer and is on schedule for arrival in the publisher's warehouse at the beginning of July.

My pal Dan Best worked with me on the story. You may recall him from the Escapist piece we did for Dark Horse a couple of years back. Leotard is a huge sprawling epic that gobbles up a large swathe of history from the Franco-Prussian war to the sinking of the Titanic
My book tour will not be quite so epic, but will impress nevertheless, starting in July with San Diego, where I am a guest of the convention, and finishing with an appearance at Page 45 in the UK on the first Sunday of August, with a couple of other stops in between, still to be worked out and announced here in due course.

Congrats on finishing. Do you know if there are any plans to ship to a retailer in Japan? I've only found two non-manga retailers in the country and Top Shelf and First Second aren't represented at either.

Jason,
I asked Gina at First Second about Japan:

"I talked to our international sales guy – most of the Japanese bookstores that sell English-language comics have an exclusive distribution agreement with Baker and Taylor Japan. (Baker and Taylor is one of the two largest US distributors.) Baker and Taylor Japan definitely carries our books, so the Japanese retails are able to order them – it’s just a matter of getting them to do so..."

hope that helps

Beautiful cover blending the graphic and the typographic. If you care to answer, will we see more formal experimentation here (as in Fate of the Artist)?

Anyhow, can't wait!

JED,

Yup, this one is completely nuts.
I think I got the idea for it after I called Fate 'a three ring circus' in an interview. I thought, what if I actually draw a three ring circus!?

I'm really looking forward to this and will be driving from Southampton to Page 45 in Nottingham to get my copy signed by you. (Just got permission from the wife). Told her how I've been trying to get a book signed by you since your first collections came out from Escape back in 198?. I was at Ukcac and spent a fair bit of the weekend shuttling between the Escape stand and the Bar trying to catch you to sign the books and always just missing you.

Means the book'll cost me about £50 with travelcosts but that'sonly about £2.20 a year since 198?.

All my best.

I just read about this book at Comic Book Resources. Congrats on being in their Top 100 comic books of the year (and so close to number 1).
